For a simple way to measure distances to set leg length try this free Walk Meter App. It uses your phones inbuilt GPS and is free and easy to use. An even simpler one is the Measuring Wheel app for Android. Set the screen timeout to 30 minutes. There is a similar one for Apple devices Pace Ruler (Apple) See the guides on the Program page for target leg lengths for various types of races and wind strengths.
